Welcome teachers, to your very own news page!
On July 20, 2020, we reopened the doors to the Maternelle after an unimaginable 4 months of closure. My heart is as full as it has been in months, if not years. This has been such a traumatic time, and we are very happy to be able to return to the essential work of caring for young children. We feel confident about our ability to adhere to the CDC guidelines and to keep all of the children happy and safe during the ongoing pandemic. The children need us now more than ever. They need warm, caring teachers; they need music and movement; they need to make buildings and knock them down in the block area; they need to punch play dough and play “chat perché” on the playground with their buddies. They need to skin their knees and pick and choose bandaids from our first aid kits and see that wounds heal and that everything is going to be okay. We’ll continue to run behind them with Clorox wipes and hand sanitizer, but we will give them as much freedom to play as we can. Helping children understand and process that “sometimes scary things happen,” but that grownups will still take care of them and keep them safe, and that we can worry while they play, makes all the difference in their well-being and healthy development. We look forward to seeing you all soon.
À très bientôt,
Olivia
P.S.
This is the best, most comprehensive website I have seen about COVID. It was created by Emily Oster, an economist, who wrote the book Expecting Better, which was my bible during both of my pregnancies. She is a genius who is very into data collection and statistics, and she is conducting studies on the transmission of the virus in schools and daycare settings, among other things.

I find the site and her research very reassuring.
